Just did a 2-week Norway road trip in an EV! Their cities and roads are noticeably quieter, charging infrastructure is everywhere and relatively cheap.. it’s just a normal part of life!

Mpls crime stats update for end-of-May: Even with two mass-shooting events in the last 5 weeks, overall shooting victimization is still down 25% YTD vs last year (107 vs 143). Murders down 32% YTD vs last year (21 vs 31). Both similar to ~20% decline nationwide.

Cool road-to-path conversion just west of downtown Chaska. No driveways on this section.. prone to flooding and erosion.. so they just turned it into a beautiful creekside bike trail with two dead-end roads on either end for local access.

A shooting homicide over the weekend ended this two-month streak. Homicides still down more than 50% YTD versus the previous 3 year average. 20% drop in homicides nationwide, with Detroit, LA, Baltimore, Philly all reporting their fewest first quarter homicides since the 1960s.

I agree with Commissioner Forney on this. Park Board commissioners should not use bogus Fire Code concerns to prioritize overnight non-park-use parking in the Uptown Mall Park over park amenities on park land! Also, a parking study noted plenty of open overnight spots just a block north.

I’ll be co-leading the Earth Day Cleanup at Father Hennepin Bluff Park on Saturday the 19th! We will pick up a lot of trash that otherwise would be carried down storm drains and into the river. (Plenty of other clean-up locations, but I can’t guarantee they will have treats!)

A big indoor playground sounds perfect for downtown! On frigid winter days, hot and humid summer days, rainy days, smoky days, etc. Minneapolis should have great places for families to go and play!

Mildly interesting: the organic recycling bins have locks on them during warmer months to prevent people from putting trash in them. The (metal) locks are removed in winter. The 4 organics bins at Holmes Park tend to be totally full by the time they are emptied every week.

This was a fun idea in 1990, though now that most (all?) of the little metal worms are gone I wonder how many kids and adults get frustrated or confused by the question. I noticed that several metal frogs are still there 🐸🧐

Main St is currently owned by the Park Board from Hennepin to 3rd. CM Rainville, new city arts director, others seem quite open to pedestrianization of that section, at least for summer events, weekends, etc. Maybe we can explore a land swap so that the city can lead on that?

Minneapolis has now gone 40 days without a shooting homicide, and 33 days without a homicide of any kind. An element of luck likely at play here because there have been 24 gunshot wound victims during that time. Fatality rate for gunshot wounds has ranged from 11-19% since 2019.
