I read "Year of the Mer" by LD Lewis. Audiobook narrated by Janina Edwards. A dark and bloody and messy sequel (of sorts) to the Little Mermaid, where Arielle’s choices had consequences that echo down generations and across kingdoms. It's part 1 of a duology and ends on HARD cliffhanger! #booksky

When I was a child, teachers sat the best girl students next to disruptive boy students. The girls were responsible for keeping the boys calm so that the teacher could continue teaching. This sort of emotional regulation by proxy, using girls and women to calm boys and men, still happens.
