It's helpful to contrast this with the "RINO" idea. Republicans constantly fight over who is more Republican - Democrats fight to be seen as less Democratic. What possible conclusion could an observer come to other than "Republican good, Democrat bad." We cannot foster this dynamic.

There's a comment in here that people need to focus on. Talarico mentions people who come up to him after events and whisper, as a secret, that they're not Democrats. I don't think our pundit class understands the cultural prohibition against openly identifying as a Democrat in much of the country
