I'd ask all of you and @jcbslide.bsky.social to think about these questions: Can we know what’s true? Can we debate and decide fairly? Can we hold power accountable? If you answer "no" to those questions, then I'd argue you aren't living in a functional democracy, just a performance of one.

Every now and then it hits me that this isn’t just about 1 inhuman act or another, but a bigger picture. That the entire democratic experiment in America is falling apart in front of our eyes. It’s historic in that sense. Which then makes me wonder why all media stories aren’t framed this way.

Farage and Badenoch are very strongly plugged in to the new US power networks changing their country's track from a liberal to an authoritarian democracy. They will be watching the lessons, what can and can't be achieved to fundamentally alter state and society, extremely closely.

🧵 I want to follow up this earlier thread by examining why the USA finds itself in the state it does at the moment; the process of disordered discourse capturing state institutions and how it inevitably results in a slide towards authoritarianism, a process we're seeing unfold before our very eyes.

Let’s start with a critical point: Not all disordered discourse leads to institutional capture. Some narratives, like Flat Earth or Bigfoot conspiracies, remain fringe, self-contained, and irrelevant to policy. But others infiltrate formal institutions, and that’s where the danger escalates.

I wouldn't get too upset about all the puff pieces praising and normalising Trump. His movement is at the the apex of its hubris at the moment. Moral cowards and weaklings will write stuff saying how he's 'defying critics' or something. Then they'll swing back with the pendulum. Seen it all before.
