If been doing a variation of this at my public regional in Louisiana, with much larger classes. It's a lot of work, but thee results have been very good. And I'm expanding in the spring.

It is wild how difficult it is to get (or provide) a basic liberal arts college education now. For every class, a stack of books and a notebook (or several). Yes, for labs and sciences, too. Read, think, write, repeat.

I *despise* Follet and this trend generally. I work admin (paperwork hell) at a community college: closing our bookstore has had massive additional affects beyond just "harder to get physical books" -- the bookstore was also a place to get OTC medication and snacks. Now there's nowhere on campus.

Y'all have no idea how hard it can be to make an e-book or PDF truly accessible, especially when DRM and other IP protection is required.

It dawned on me the other day that my local high school, built 5 years ago, doesn't have lockers. Not only do they not buy textbooks for the students anymore, they structured the _building_ around the assumption that kids will do all their reading on $150 Chromebooks.

I have had some success lately by making friends with my local independent bookstore manager and telling THEM what books my students will be using each semester. The bookstore can get books faster and is a friendlier place to buy them, even though it’s not on campus

Tangentially, I recently tried to get a physical book via ILL. My uni had access to an e-version, so they rejected my ILL request. Said they would not do ILLs if an e-version was available.
