🤦‍♂️ the title is wrong on this one. These are counts per month (the y axes labels are correct). I have made so many graphs of this stuff, trying to find a good way to order and arrange and annotate so that enough interesting info is visible. So mistakes are inevitable. sorry.

it's very funny to see the way people are reacting to the ship rankings that include all the fics from the last 12 years. Those orderings don't reflect our recent experience in this fandom because we mostly read works from the last few. The piles of fic from 2019-2022 don't really matter.

These stats are very reassuring to me, a middling writer. For any given fic, i can check on how it lines up relative to the median given age (all 1 year), length, and hits. Other factors matter too for kudos and comments, like ship, content,and community, but knowing I'm kinda in the middle is nice.

i want to keep playing with numbers but i should go skating with family. I just had another idea to estimate relative readership for different ships. But it doesn't matter. it's better to go freeze and get bruised.

I first scraped BTS fics on AO3 back in January 2021, just as i was starting to read it, and the data sat unpublished on my hard drive until now! Here it's allowing a perfect natural experiment on how fanfic gain hits and kudos with age, back in early 2021 (red) and late 2025 (blue).
