European natural gas prices keep on rising and have now more than doubled )+134%) in just four weeks from ā¬29/MWh on 17 February to ā¬67/MWh today. Geopolitical tensions and wars always drive up gas prices. That's not a bug in the system. It's a feature of fossil fuel dependence.

Spain's renewables build-out has structurally decoupled its electricity prices from gas markets. Gas now sets the price in only 15% of hours, compared to 90% in Italy. Countries that invested early in clean power are far less exposed to fossil fuel price shocks. Those that didn't now pay the price.

Spain is has invested consistently in renewable energies in the last few years and this has drastically decreased the impact of the Iran oil crisis.

I honestly hope the Iran blockage leads to increase investment in renewables and thus energy independence in Europe.

One thing this Iran operation should do is embarrass the hell out of Russia. In the opening minutes of the war, most of Iranās leadership was dead, and their air defense was largely neutralized. Meanwhile, four years later, Zelenskyy still stands. Thereās levels to this.

Trump argues in FT interview that āpeople who are the beneficiaries" of the Strait of Hormuz should help keep it open That's not a crazy point, until you remember why the Strait is closed in the first place. It wasn't Europe or Asia that did this.

One thing I will say about Iran“s parliament. The Islamic Consultative Assembly (consultative says a lot here) is that they have a maximum age of 75.

If we made the green energy transition this war would be unthinkable and these authoritarians wouldnāt be in power ā not in the US, not in Iran, not in Saudi Arabia, not in Russia. Hydrocarbons are killing our freedom and just plain killing us.

North America's 92% car trips aren't due to a preference for driving, but rather the direct result of zoning, parking mandates, and sprawl. True freedom means not being tied to a car. š

Dear "I don't want to do tourist stuff, I want the local experience" people. āThe local Madrid experience is being crammed into Metro at 8am, working a 9-to-5, and spending half your paycheck on a tiny flat in Mostoles. āYou're a tourist. Go eat your calamari sandwich at Plaza Mayor and be happy.

Five corporations control 90% of the US media market. Airlines merged from 12 major carriers in 1980 to 4 today. Four giants control 80% of meat processing. The evidence of corporate consolidation is everywhere. It means more power for them and less freedom for you.

On LinkedIn, people are complaining that company profits aren't high enough when there's competition. Like, hello, the whole point is that consumers now get cheaper, better products! How is that bad for society?
