It's not even "don't speed if you don't want a ticket" - it's "don't speed by more than 10mph." That's a crazy generous buffer. And why are there so many cameras east of the river? Because we were terrible people who built wide dangerous roads there and so they're extra unsafe (on average).

A few days late, but here's how 2025 stacked up according to @veloviewer.com. It definitely was a different year, that's for sure. No FS-related pointless prize to drive early-year mileage, but the return of commuting (with a much longer commute) provided a lot of steadier miles by late April.

The multiplier effect is real, but nothing happens by magic. Though I don't get to ride it often, my undying appreciation goes out to everyone who helps to make the MVT a better and safer way to get around, whether it be giving up time or a few dollars. It all makes a positive difference.

Spending some more time this morning adding comments on the @ddotdc.bsky.social #bikeDC Strategic Bikeways Plan outreach map tool - and it's really highlighting how relative everyone's experiences are. For me - I've probably added 60+ comments on personal pain points from commuting and the like...

Going through and providing comments on the public engagement map for the Strategic Bikeways Plan and I found myself putting a note on the 1200 block of 4th NE. Made me a bit misty-eyed - that's where it all started.

Heaven forbid @ddotdc.bsky.social interfere with one of *four* travel lanes on Benning Road to warn drivers of an upcoming detour. Everyone else can just walk/roll on the grass, right?

I love how biking to a DPW "special waste" event is like a cheat code. I had a few years of accumulated electronics waste and other assorted things of that variety, so used the flatbed trailer. I did not have to wait in the entry line and got waved around the big SUVs there to drop off a printer.

Next - while it's definitely an improvement, we might need to get @mountvernontrail.org to give DDOT some pointers on how to do this work with a bit less disruption *and* end up with a patch that isn't a speed bump unto itself...

Once the bigger ones are, installed (scheduled for March), can't wait to see the first photo of a @bunchbike.com in the oversized locker (which WMATA explicitly notes in their press release as being a bike that can fit...)

Really hard to get out of my head the juxtaposition of being on an eCaBi with a speed-limited Lime bike to my right and getting passed by a Cybertruck going 70+ (per the digital sign) on my left on Southern Ave near the Metro station the other morning.

Was good seeing so many people come out for this year's Ride For Your Life/ @safestreetsdc.bsky.social walk on the World Day of Remembrance. Very different event, but like yesterday's @ward5familybiking.bsky.social ride, a wonderful sense of community. And huge thanks to @waba.org, as always!

DPW really working hard to make sure that only people who plan to show up stay registered for the 11/29 Special Waste Collection event. Also nice for them to state in the e-mail that people who walk/bike do not need to be in the waiting line.

Apparently, there's a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the new MBT #bikeDC segment this morning at 11AM (at Blair and Whittier NW). Getting the e-mail at 9AM is...not a lot of notice.

Starting October 15, six CTA buses will operate with Automated Bus Lane Enforcement systems as part of the City of Chicago’s Smart Streets pilot.

One thing that really bugs me with Medstar Georgetown is that every appointment confirmation is met with "thanks! Make sure you park your car here" without any inkling or notion that there are other ways to arrive. Even the website has the public transit/shuttle options in much smaller font.

Really stoked, though not sure what it says that "Registering for Household Hazardous Waste drop-off" passes for excitement these days.

Of course the "DC is not tough enough on law breakers" GOP House committee voted to make it easier for people to break the law while driving (removing ATE). The logical inconsistency really bugs me.

Amusing that one of the reasons given for halting the Union Station redevelopment effort was the plan would end up "reducing critical elements like parking."

Things were so much better back when you could take your household hazardous waste to Fort Totten (or Benning Road) on a Saturday without it being a special monthly event requiring preregistration for a 15 minute window.

Hey @wmata.com - it would be great if the Green line shuttles to Suitland stopped at bus stop 3004094 before progressing to the station. That's where a lot of the riders are headed, and it would shave off at least 5 of the 25-30+ minutes added by this month long closure.
