Last week with the help of GWMP NPS equipment we were able to pressure wash Bridge 11 near Fort Hunt. This bridge gets very little sun so helping blast off mildew and moss will help make it safer for trail users. Donate to help us keep improving the trail: buff.ly/9c9anvj

The Mount Vernon Trail is part of the Potomac Heritage National Scenic Trail which is an 800+ mile trail system designated by Congress in 1983. The National Park Service is creating the first Comprehensive Plan for the Potomac Heritage National Scenic Trail.

National Park Service rangers, preservation specialists and maintenance crews worked in April 2026 to clean up and remove graffiti at Fort Hunt Park. For years, the historic 19th-century concrete batteries at the park have been the target of vandalism.
