Since 1975, $79 trillion in wealth has been redistributed from the bottom 90% to the top 1% — a 1% that now owns more wealth than the bottom 93%. We can respect innovation & entrepreneurship, but we cannot respect the extraordinary greed that now exists. We need a wealth tax.

Pope Leo: “Creation is crying. But many powerful people do not hear this cry: the wealth of the earth is in the hands of a few, very few, increasingly concentrated – unjustly – in the hands of those who often do not want to hear the groaning of the earth and the poor.”

I started writing a book on lions. It turned out to be quite tricky and, frankly, damn dangerous, so I went back to regular paper.

“The 3.5% rule is a concept in political science that states that when 3.5% of the population of a country protest nonviolently against a government, that government is likely to fall from power.” If you can get to a No Kings rally this Saturday, please do.

It just boggles my mind that when we puzzle over how we got in this mess everyone doesn’t just point at Rupert Murdoch. It used to be to get this level of alternate reality someone would hand you a copy of a copy of a copy of an incoherent manifesto.

Putting the military on the street will lower crime. It does in North Korea, did in Nazi Germany, and in the book 1984. The question isn’t will it lower crime. The question is do we want to be a nation governed like this. Until 6 minutes ago the GOP believed in LOCAL control.

I've clung to grim belief that 1968 would be darkest year I'd see in US. Horrific assassinations. Real (not show) military occupation in DC. Tet and MyLai. 'Police Riot' in Chicago. Nixon/Agnew. Not so certain any more. Back then 2 parties still functioned. A prez could resign for "good of nation"

Update: I offered the amendment. Not to refuse acceptance of the Qatari jet; just to prohibit Trump from taking it with him when he leaves office - after the taxpayers spend $1 billion to retrofit it. Failed 14-15. Every single Republican voted to allow Trump to take the jet.

The IRS's free tax filing tool is now reportedly "gone," according to Trump's IRS chief. This comes after Intuit, the maker of TurboTax, lobbied the government for years to block IRS free file. Intuit donated $1 million to Trump’s inauguration. See how this works?

So am I reading this court decision correctly? We now have 50 micronations with their own laws interpreting the U.S. Constitution wholly separate from one another? But there's one guy with private law enforcement who is immune from all punishment who can do whatever he wants in those 50 states?

Three things made the US a rich and powerful nation: the rule of law, its science & innovation system, and openness to foreign talent. Remarkable how Trump has taken a sledgehammer to all three. No enemy of this country could do more.
