Further on this subject - I’m washing my hand knit wool socks today so I had to wear ((shudder)) mass produced cotton socks for the first time in two months, and YIKES it *is* absolutely worth it to spend $30 on yarn and hours and hours knitting socks (at least for me).

As a child who wants toys and things and has no independence to get toys socks kind of sucked. As an adult who has bought the toys he wants socks are awesome. I have things now, I want warm feet.

Attempted to clean up some of the mess in my front garden from the gas meter replacement last week. Scattered hundreds of milkweed seeds in the wind in the process, so - win?

I was out of the house with my 7yo for six straight hours (doing Holiday Things) and man am I overstimulated now. The Boston Ballet Nutcracker was as beautiful (and sparkly!) as ever.

I was hoping to sleep in a little today, only to discover the roadwork on my street is continuing through the weekend. 😩

Sometimes you just need soup, salad, and breadsticks.

Today’s accomplishment: donated a bunch of outgrown toys, puzzles, and games to a local swap event. I’m hoping things that were cluttering up our house will bring some joy to other kids in the coming weeks (plus now we have more room to store the things my kids are actually using and enjoying).

I got a hankering for Olive Garden but I do not live in an area with Olive Gardens, so dinner tomorrow night is soup, salad, and breadsticks. Just cut up a stale bit of bread to make croutons because if there aren’t carbs coated in garlicky fat, it won’t taste right.

Well, I slept for over 7 hours. Unfortunately the roadwork on my street continues so the jackhammers made getting any additional sleep impossible, but at least I feel slightly more human.

Great. I have a new CPAP but I can’t find any filters and running it without a filter is a quick way to destroy the motor on the brand new machine.

In case the cat distribution system works via BlueSky, we’re looking for a friendly/people loving adult male lapcat that gets along with other cats (and is generally in good health, neutered and negative for FIV/FeLV). Ideally already in the eastern part of Massachusetts.

Sigh. I think the latest cat we’ve been looking at isn’t going to work out either (health stuff). I think maybe the cat distribution system is just not on our side right now. 😩

Well, I got my broken CPAP swapped out for a functional one so that’s something. The entire morning has been full of panic attacks for NO REASON (wtf nervous system, whyyy gotta be SO nervous??).

Because I am a champion of healthy coping mechanisms, we are in the process of adopting a third cat. 😬

Just a quiet, sad little PSA. If someone is estranged from their parents, please please don’t give them the ‘but they’re your mum/ dad’ They were their mum / dad when they did the worst imaginable things to their own kids. It’s not up to the children to make it ok. It’s up to them to live well.

I have discovered hell and it is a roller skating rink full of 7 year olds who can’t skate and the same 12 songs blasting on repeat.

Note: I found my baking limit, and it is five dozen cupcakes, two layer cakes, three pies, and 7lbs of frosting over the course of 8 days. And now I need to plan out my holiday cookie baking. 😬

Not going to get into specifics, but I just need to say: while all of the healthcare system is incredibly broken, the way seniors in need of 24/7 care are handled is especially egregious. People at all ages deserve to be treated with dignity and compassion.

Reeeeeally annoyed that the overpriced package of frozen sausage I bought at the local market was not just 5 months past the “best by” date but also light by over 20% (by weight).

Well, it took ages but I’ve got two 10” pecan pies in the oven. Sifted through another few dozen cat profiles, none that fit everything we’re looking for. Is there such a thing as a cat yenta?? No? Sigh.

Whew. Walked to pick kids up from school, then 1.5 miles to an appointment, then down a block or so to one grocery store, then 3/4-1 mile to a second grocery store, then 1/2ish mile home. Hauling cantaloupes because my children love them and they were on sale. Today counts as arm AND leg day.

Once again, I scream into the void at rescue organizations that post adoption profiles for cats online - PLEASE STOP CHECKING “OK with Other Cats” WHEN THE BIO CLEARLY SAYS THE ANIMAL NEEDS TO BE AN ONLY CAT. Please. I am begging you.

Today, I baked a tiny cake for my younger child’s birthday (yes my children have birthdays only a few days apart right around Thanksgiving, it is MADNESS), wrapped birthday presents, and dissociated over cat pictures while trying not to think about my aging parent’s deteriorating condition. WHEEEE

Just for the record, I (and my house) have survived the 10yo’s birthday party. 🎉

Wish me strength today as I host a birthday party for 8+ 9/10 year old boys. My the house (and my eardrums) survive long enough to endure 20+ 6-year-olds next weekend.
