Found a relevant set of 19th century notes on open shelves, related to what I was looking for in the earlier vestry minutes but not in the catalogue. This is why we repeat, "most history is not digitised: we still need historians; we still needs local studies libraries run by local councils."

In case anyone wants to feel old, my researcher flew in on a transatlantic flight arriving on Wednesday, got to the archives all day Thursday, returned to the archives today, is due to fly out (with a stopover in another Euro capital) on Monday, back to lectures next Wednesday. No problems.
