Was researching my undergrad dissertation using the Rowntree company archives @uoyborthwick.bsky.social and had vague notions of being an historian, and I thought ‘if I’m an academic I’d get to play with archives ccasionally, if I do their (I.e archivists) job, I get to play with them every day’

Edit: unless you’re an archives professional, when leaving behind whacking great known, wide-scale problems for one of your successors to deal with sometime in the next 100 years is basically your job

It does! Amazingly, in the same fabric as the rest of my shirt, so you can't really see it, cos I dont want to be a braggard (Top fact - was a reasonably handy goalkeeper in my youth, until it was realised you could just lob me from distance. Once saved a penalty from Huddersfield Town's Jon Stead)

As well as writing The Same Sky, Mitchell penned a number of novels and children's books, as well as writing a celebrated biography of the French writer Colette. She was working on a biography of the Redgrave acting dynasty when she died in 1979 at the age of only 63.

Mitchell began her career on stage but went on to appear in films like The Divided Heart, Woman in a Dressing Gown, and Yield to the Night. She played Julia to Peter Cushing's Winston in the first UK TV adaptation of Orwell's 1984, & also starred in the TV version of her own play 'The Same Sky'.
