It’s time for some unsettling disloyalty: If England’s leaders aren’t being ejected then some of the players will be… but which ones?

Zak Crawley, for example, whose task in the next few weeks is not really to prove himself, but to disprove himself.

All right you primitive screwheads, listen up. We honestly aren’t all that interested in T20 cricketers who aren’t Jasprit Bumrah any more.

Following this via the BBC scorecard which only shows second names. I still check every time. One day I'll not check and it really will be Barry, not Jacob.

I'm frustrated that the only remaining options are Jos Buttler (a) returning to form 'when it really mattered', or (b) not returning to form. I suppose he could also return to form but not sufficiently to get England a win, which would at least save us from the, 'when his team needed him' articles.

I haven't 100% decided on this yet, but I'm thinking about starting to get annoyed whenever a cricket bat is referred to as a 'blade'.

I interpreted McCullum's umbrage at being accused of 'running a loose ship' to be more focused on the 'running' bit. "Nobody's running anything mate. We've put the sail up and we're going to see where the wind takes us."

What shall we do with the drunken captain of the HMS McCullum? Chuck him in the long boat ’til he’s sober? Or just leave him alone to pursue a T20 World Cup win?

! The only slightly annoying thing is finding out that Pat Cummins is funny in addition to being great at literally everything else. Greedy sod.

Good, unbiased review. I overheard someone on a tram the other day saying the book was evocative of Lou Reed! Or perhaps they said it was a provocative loo read. Either way, worth purchasing.
