i remember being pretty critical of drive's first quarter, but it's honestly been so much fucking fun revisiting it. going back through a rider series when you've fully let your guard down about gimmicks and toys is so much fun. plus the second quarter gives us this eternal gem in english:

One of the benefits of organizing a toy collection in a spreadsheet is being able to graph data like this, think 'huh, I have more toys from the last few years than I thought', then realize it's almost all toku toys and that I only have 3 Transformers released in the last decade.

On the exact opposite end of the spectrum as Type Formula, Type Tridoron might just be my favorite suit in Kamen Rider Drive. I especially love how it feels like an evolution of Type Speed without being too similar, very fitting as a final form.

Thinking about Metal Cluster Hopper after getting some Kamen Rider Zero-One toys: the key is twice as long to fold in front of the driver, and it looks like a whole grasshopper… …it would have been sick if it was a proper grasshopper robot that transformed into a key, à la W’s Fang Memory.

So I got my third one in…. …the Zero-One Driver is REALLY good

smth really funny abt transformers is that its very mainstream but there's a massive disparity of knowledge between someone out of the fandom who watched a bayverse movie once and someone in the fandom. if u explained rung or chromedome even on a surface level to a regular person they'd explode

Thinking about getting an AIMS Shotriser and was reminded how much I dig that Zero-One gave the ‘all previous powers combined’ upgrade to Vulcan instead of Zero-One. They still get to be present in A final form, but also all of Zero-One’s upgrades get to stay consistent with the Hopper theming.

Got to Caking’s debut in Gavv, and this is such a good form. I love the way it gets its increased power from the personal connection the cake has due to making it with Sachika, and taking the established familiar idea and incorporating it to create a summoner form is so good.

I haven’t really been into collecting toys based on media for a while…. and apparently what I was missing was watching characters do cool stuff with the toys, not be the toys themselves, because I’m two Rider Belts deep and waiting on a third.

CRUMPLEZONE YEAAHHHHH those cannons (+ sounds!) are my favorite individual gimmick in the whole trilogy

Hot take: energon was the best line in the trilogy. Despite a few janky early Autobot figures, the back half of that line was absolutely fire and the decepticons were tops.

Trying to figure out why I don’t vibe with the Ex-Aid suits (having only seen the first episode and some clips), and I finally realized it’s not because I dislike the eyes, it’s because they totally look like they should used for emoting rather than being static.

Watched Zero-One RealxTime because I was in the mood after finally buying the driver; SO glad they finally let Is transform, Aruto as Zero-One and her as Zero-Two is great.

Kamen Rider’s got its grips in me enough that I thought ‘A weather-themed Rider would be cool’…. and then *actually* started designing a Driver and power set instead of letting that idea float away.

I totally forgot that Kamen Riders often debut in the prior series, so seeing Eiji randomly pop in during W Forever: A to Z was a real ‘wait what’ moment …maybe this is a sign I should actually finish OOOs.

I’m at the point in W where the team has learned who runs the Museum, and it reminds me how odd it is that the show doesn’t have much sense of overarching mystery. It’d be much harder to do with the Gaia Library in play, but the writers did think of that enough to have looking it up just not work.
