I don't think "mental health conditions are being over-diagnosed" but that "real suffering is being over-medicalised". These are very different things. The former tries to justify cutting support, but the latter does not: it acknowledges real suffering but asks for different (psychosocial) provision

The Word Gap ™️ is something most teachers learn by osmosis. Given that what we think it means is not correct, we need to unlearn it, and dig at the biases that made it so attractive and idea in the first place.

There are some good recommendations in y/day's Select Cttee report. Until curriculum flexibility and accountability is sorted, there's a risk that SEND practice is inconsistent with other drivers to which schools must respond.
