Ahead of @leicesterucu.bsky.social striking from 29/9-17/10 we are at the freshers fair to talk to our students to explain why we are striking and ask them to support us to protect education at Leicester.

We have made it clear from the beginning: our industrial action ends as soon as the university agrees to no compulsory redundancies. This is a demand that the university takes on the responsibility and consequences of their poor financial decisions without putting it on us.

We will strike from 29/09 to 17/10; consider donating, if you are able. Any donation is welcome.

Such an important point. Also we strike because we care about students not because we don’t!

It's 5.15pm on Friday. Stop working. Go home. Put your feet up or do whatever you need to relax. This has been an incredibly grueling week for a lot of us. Your job doesn't own you and unions fought for better working conditions. You are entitled to rest and a private life!

We don’t want to strike. We want managers to sit down with us so we can work together to find alternative solutions!

And @leicesterucu.bsky.social have a mandate for strike action, with the sole aim of preventing redundancies.

But no, in this race-to-the-bottom destroy-all-that's-good financial system permanent staff is seen as a liability, a long-term cost risk. Change. The. Damn. System.

We knew it would be tough to ballot over the summer, but we came together to achieve this excellent result. A massive thank you to everyone who helped us achieve this result.

Don't lose sight of massive loss of professional services. They keep unis running. Without them, academics spend their time on admin which is hugely inefficient (I do NOT have their skills). Everyone loses. Who is running library? Student support? Paying me to do admin makes NO sense. Save them too!

What they don't want are local alumni and community campaigns to save Subject X at Uni Y - because those create a lot of pressure and at least sometimes will win.

Lots here resonates with the themes in the @leicesterucu.bsky.social workload survey: complaints about lack of transparency, over allocation, poor management, inequity and burnout. 60% of respondents scored at moderate to high levels of burnout.
