Senior QA Engineer at Epic Games working on the Unreal Engine, cosplayer, human-simulacrum. He/They.
As tonight is the Met Gala, let me share a little project I did a few years ago themed around it. I present Gundam Lfrith wearing a very fancy red dress, ready to march down the red carpet.

Implying that billionaires are trying to fund communism is like saying that plump turkeys are trying to fund Thanksgiving. (The "orgy of socialism" sounds kind of nice though.)

I have learned that to be successful in a job means you both have to both DO the work and BE SEEN to have done the work, which aren't necessarily the same thing. The same is true in politics.

The Democratic base has been crying out for New Deal style social democracy since the Bush era, if not longer. The narrow band of Republican politicos who have the ear of the party’s leaders say that Democrats need to cosplay as Republicans. Guess who gets listened to?

I don't know who needs to hear this, but there's no amount of capability that justifies being an awful human. The bar for being a decent human is already pretty low. If you can't clear that, I don't care how capable you are. I can certainly find someone *nearly* as capable who isn't a shitbag.

“Why aren’t college students protesting” stories are almost always wrong (they are protesting), omit crucial context (they were brutally punished for protesting before), and somehow suggest that 19 yr olds have more moral responsibility than elected officials three times their age

At the present moment I am not interested in anything politically beyond the destruction of the Republican Party as a viable political force. If we don't break the back of the conservative movement nothing else really matters. Whatever good shit you want to do won't happen.

I rarely consider myself a single issue voter, but someone who came out hard saying "the one thing we do is fix SCOTUS" might get pretty far with me right now. I feel like they've been ruining almost everything since my first election as an adult voter. (2000)

one thing you can do for your laid off friends is reach out to them and tell them that you appreciated their work. I dislike the stigma in America of people avoiding talking to you because you were callously cut out of employment because people who have no taste deleted you from a spreadsheet

Funny thing about American mass media is how woke content is broadly popular, routinely pays for itself, and sometimes goes blockbuster, whereas right-wing content is a narrow niche that rarely reaches breakeven, never goes blockbuster, and usually requires immense subsidies for it to exist at all.

How we remedy this is another question, but as we are constantly being bombarded with the fact that those in the upper echelons of society are weird idiots with an ideology that incentivises them to be a malignant force, we should probably solve that particular pickle sooner rather than later.

Hollow Knight. I didn't enjoy it the first time I played it. The first area felt so dreary and empty, nothing in it really grabbed me. I got bored and bounced off. It was only because people kept singing its praises so often that I felt pressured to give it another try and pushed through that time.

There is a real tendency to be against good technology when the problem is capitalism. Being able to stream movies is good. Being able to order food online instead of having to call is good. Being able to call a taxi with an app and see where it is rules. The issue is not the tech, it's capitalism

Gavin Newsom & the New York Times are doggedly working to strip rights and human recognition from transfolk, while insisting anyone who *doesn't* share their obsession is obsessed with "pronouns". Trust no one who claims to oppose Trump while taking delight in bullying the same people Trump bullies.

There's this couple I see frequently at the gym. One part of the couple is a pretty swole guy, and when I saw him tonight I noticed he was wearing a Bungie shirt. I asked him if he'd worked there too. Said he worked in recruiting around '19-'22 or so. I told him I worked there '13-'14. Small world.

A new paper shows that less than 2 months of exposure to Twitter’s algorithmic feed significantly shifts people’s political views to the right. Moving from chronological feed to the algorithmic feed also increases engagement. This is one of the most concerning papers I’ve read in awhile.

This is Jerry Lawson. He invented the video game cartridge for the Fairchild Channel F system. Because of his invention, many consoles had cartridges and CD formats and would become the norm. The Atari 2600, NES, Genesis, and many consoles wouldn't exist without him. Happy Black History Month.

Some day I'm going to write a political satire about a fictional country that has a bicameral legislature which consists of the "House of Common Decency" and the "House of Assholes". The later is much smaller than the former, but has complete veto power.
