I'm randomly thinking about how sometimes social relationships are, for lack of a better word, "imposed" upon us. For example, when you start a new job, you typically don't get to pick your coworkers. Are they your friends? I guess they could be, but you seldom have a say in the matter. 🤔

I should be sleeping: morning edition. Now I kind of want to make a game about misinterpreting Ikea instructions. It's basically poker but with furniture parts. The funniest version would involve cardboard bits that you try to assemble.

Okay, yes, I'm going to put an additional skill point into "car maintenance" and see what it gets me. Just 1 skill point so not a lot, but at low levels, it unlocks a lot of options. Fun fact: this also counts towards the "mech maintenance" skill tree, but only for the electrical system.

I keep a list of companies I don't want to work for, but those companies do hire people and make payroll. Am I self-sabotaging by refusing to work at those places? Will my friends disown me if I do take the money? What if it's companies that aren't wholly evil but have a bad internal track record?

I had an abnormally "productive" Saturday. It's the blessing and curse of working on my own projects. But anyway, I'm still taking psychic damage because I'm missing my own soft deadlines. What's the penalty? Technically it's all just opportunity cost, but it still feels ... weird.

I hate thinking about this in a transactional way, but what is the "cost" of being principled? And I mean this in terms of both real cost and opportunity cost? Because there's a social cost to not adhering to principles, but also I see a lot of money being thrown at morally abhorent things.

When you talk to people in leadership about how they ended up where they are today, a lot of them will tell you they were in the right place at the right time, and someone took a chance on them, for which they are forever grateful. That path is non-replicable.

I used think my ability to solve problems under stress was a marketable skill. But I seem to be failing at it now, and I'm not sure if it's because: - out of practice - decided it's bad ROI - overwhelmed by external stressors Mostly, trying to decide if this is a problem and/or if it's fixable?

Sometimes, I worry that I'm not an interesting person at all. Which is ridiculous for several reasons. For one thing, it doesn't actually matter if I'm interesting or not. For another, I'm not a good judge of what's interesting to other people, only what's interesting to me. Also, social norms suck.
