According to NHC in its final report on Hurricane Helene, of the 176 direct fatalities caused by the storm, 95 of them were due to freshwater flooding With the latest report of 105 killed in Texas, this event is now a deadlier flood event than Helene An absolute tragedy

Let's recap the incredible historic rain event in Roswell, NM yesterday. 5.78" of rain Wettest day all-time! beating 5.65" on Nov 1, 1901. This is 1/2 their avg YEARLY rain (11.63") 2.70" was recorded in one hour between 8-9PM More than they avg for all of Oct, Nov and Dec (2.34")

Something that caught my eye this morning. No rain has fallen in NYC and Philly in Oct & the newest NBM keeps them dry for the rest of the month. If accurate, it will be the very first time they record 0.00" for an entire month. Records go back to 1869 (NYC) & 1872 (PHL)

This week I was able to use Sentinel-2 imagery in order to highlight the impact Helene had on the Appalachians. Comparing images from this time last year to now clearly shows the dramatic changes in the landscape after hundreds of landslides.

There is literally not a single cloud in the sky from the Plains to the Eastern Seaboard. An absolutely stunning Fall Day.

Bit of an unusual heavy rain event to set up across NE New Mexico this weekend. Some places could see as much rain in two days as they average over the next 5-8 months! Mosquero, NM Forecast: 5-8" Avg rain Oct-May: 6.38" Tucumcari, NM Forecast: 3-5" Avg rain Oct-Mar: 3.98"

It also hasn't rained here in 18 days. If it does stay dry for the next 10, that'll put us at the 2nd longest dry streak since records began in 1869.
