The nazis themselves were not some clever masterminds where everything they did went perfect. They were also comical idiots who did ridiculous things, like invading Russia in the winter. They gained power because the opposition couldn’t understand that the fascists were not rational agents.

I had some issues with Ta-Nehisi because he was a little too swoony about Obama, and felt a little detached. But this is very real and very aware.

I’ll say it once and I’ll say it again. It is so easy to get a gun in the US that there is no excuse for communities not to have armed patrols to protect against ICE and right-wing violence. The Black Panthers did it the 60s and 70s and community groups did it in San Francisco in the 80s.

The government of Canada has come down harder on these rappers than on a state committing genocide. Israel still has an embassy in Canada despite Israel not only publicly endorsing violence and hate, but killing tens of thousands of people. Perhaps hundreds of thousands. We don't even know anymore.

This is eliminationist, genocidal rhetoric. There’s nothing ambiguous about it. And it didn’t come from a random Bluesky account with 28 followers. It came from a sitting member of Congress.

The death of Charlie Kirk did not radicalize people, but the reactions to his death definitely did. The number of people I know who are not engaged politically who saw what he said and believed and then saw how some people were making him a martyr made them notice some major systemic issues.

There's an old interview where they ask AC/DC if it's true their band stands for "Antichrist Demon's Children" and Angus Young replies "I got it off the back of a sewing machine" Thinking of that as news pundits try to decode the shooter's ideology only for the answer to be "it's a brainrot meme"

Actually kind of insane that more than half of these are resource extraction projects. Those aren’t the resilient infrastructure projects we should be focusing on in this plan. That’s just corporate welfare.

Political violence can be good when the guy next door or the guy in charge has a big stick and is ready to use it. Those of colonial/fascist history will know the difference between Cuba and Indonesia. When the brown shirts came knocking one of these places was ready.

Under Olivia Chow, council hasn’t been approving nearly enough unfunded projects. Or voting to receive reports that are never looked at again. Only John Tory knows what it means to look very busy while doing absolutely nothing of consequence.

Many centrist pundits have never experienced the business end of conservative policy but have experienced the left being mean to them for the stupid things they say and so they assume from their "elevated rational" position that they're each just as bad.

Including Erin today, there have been 42 hurricanes that have reached Category 5 in the Atlantic since records began in 1851. 11 of those have happened in the past 10 years. Climate change is increasing the maximum strength of hurricanes — so stronger storms now happen more often.

Very confused by the geography of the Toronto Islands. The Centre Island Ferry goes to Middle Island where the amusement park is. But the Hanlan’s Point Ferry goes to the West side of Centre Island, not to Hanlan’s Island which is a small island between Centre Island.
