People on the Right claiming the Kirk murder is an “American Reichstag fire” that justifies a massive crackdown on their political enemies is really remarkable, if you think it through: In this analogy, they are actively and affirmatively taking the side of the Nazis in 1933.

As someone who has used Zoom and not Teams for video conferencing for the past several years, it baffles me that Teams does not seem to have a "self view" option in the settings to pick a background/ check camera settings, separate from the 'join meeting' flow. What gives?

For me personally, Fantastic Four First Steps was better than Superman. More focus, better plot, and no compulsion to universe build. Both could've done with more runtime though

The scene in every alien movie where the aliens take over all the TVs by overriding broadcast signals is impossible in 2025 when everything is streaming. The aliens would be all, shit all the TVs run different HTML5 app platforms and we need to root all of them at once

Happy "Unlikely Reads" Month to those celebrating! Finished first book in a selection I otherwise would never read. Bought this for my mom on Audible, and it was the unlikeliest book imaginable on my 'shelf'. Book 31 of 2025, "Spare" by Prince Harry, 3⭐ Full review:

Jurassic World Rebirth: It's not a good movie but I didn't hate it. Decent cinematic experience, terrible script that feels like a reskinned Jurassic Park 3 with some add-ons. Second best Jurassic World, 4th best Jurassic movie after 1, 2 and World IMHO

If I had said this last year, that Trump would try and deport US citizens in his first year, all Republicans and a nontrivial number of liberals and centrists would have attacked me for behind hyperbolic, and fear-mongering, and of having Trump Derangement Syndrome. And yet:

RIP Jim Shooter. Comics legend. As a Marvel editor, he was handed a new toy license to do comics for. Neither Hasbro or Marvel leadership cared about their quality. Jim did. He rewrote Hasbro's character bios to not be shit, and made his writers treat it seriously. That license was Transformers.
