An opinion I pretty firmly hold is that everyone should make a song, paint a painting, act in something, and write a book even if all of those things end up being objectively terrible

the idea that making art is embarrassing if you don't do it well enough to make a career out of it is an objectively harmful and toxic brainworm.

I don’t know if this is a hot take but games have rules for a reason. I like the shared boundary at the table that we agree to in the social contract of play. Rules are part of the narrative, and working with instead of against them leads to extremely memorable moments.

Jam tonight

The best part of my year has been the VTM game that I play every Friday, and now also every other Thursday. 1.5 years + 3 chronicles in the same shared setting. Incredible players. The best storyteller you could ask for. It is my obsession and I got our map up to date for the end of the year.

This year has been a lot. Tough for me health-wise, but amazing relationship-wise. Challenging work-wise, but rewarding professionally. I’m so exhausted, but I’m happy. That’s gotta count for something.

There is no AI used in Blue Prince. The game was built and crafted with full human instinct by Tonda Ros and his team at @dogubomb.bsky.social. It is the result of eight years of development, fuelled by imagination and creativity, and we are extremely proud of what Tonda has achieved.

genAI is STOLEN WORK. Using genAI in *any* capacity is trafficking in stolen work, supporting the plunder. Period. These facts aren't even denied by the AI companies, they just find ways to make that plunder seem benevolent. Using their product enables that lie. Stop enabling the theft of our work.

Steal my gift idea: Every year I hand-pick a small/zine/solo TTRPG for each person that I play games with. I get to support indie creators/small press AND show my people I love them. And if I’m extra lucky, I get to play the non-solo ones with them. 😊❤️

I feel like we don’t get as many ensemble (non superhero) movies as we used to. Rewatched The Thing a few weeks back. Then Alien. Black Christmas. Now Ghost Ship. Core character traits and inter-group relationships established clearly in minutes bc they trust the audience to pay attention.

The thing thats so insidious about using AI this way is that one of the main ways artists get hired are studios looking for art references and they find us and reach out. This is removing a major avenue to get work if they can just generate nameless derivations of our ideas.

Sharing some of my thoughts from the other site but man I'm really pissed off about this shit.

Concept artists are the fucking coolest. The number of art books I own just so I can gawp at the imagination, talent, and skill on display in concept work is extremely large. There’s no place for a glorified predictive text generator in that work. Human conceptual creativity can’t be automated.

This is such a bummer. Larian has made a point to lift up developers and artists, and somehow Vincke doesn’t see how his statements on their use of AI flies in the face of that? Extremely disappointing.

the only way to write something good is to write something bad over and over again until it becomes good. outsourcing all the writing something bad parts to a machine means you didn't write the good thing on the other end (if it's even good)
