If the worst single-family house in your n’hood costs over $1 million, then your n’hood should be zoned for apartment buildings. (It’s pretty much that simple)

The artificer nodded. "I can build this wheeled chair, but why? You have an enchanted hover seat." "Yes," the wizard fumed, "but the palace have erected magic-cancelling wards." "Why?" "Don't know. But they didn't think of people who need mobility aids. So I need wheels to go shout at the king."

Buried in a 57-page, windshield perspective traffic analysis report for an intersection near Lexington center I find the key nugget of context. As the parent of two future LHS students I say, gee thanks I guess.

First appearance of the Luker Amendment at tonight’s planning board meeting! Our historical commission can apply a 21-month demo delay, but if the project will produce multi-family housing it’s reduced to 12 months.

I wrote something about our absurdly expensive proposed new high school, and how new multi-family housing development will help us pay for it.

My janky, hand-me-down grill is too big and dirty to try fitting in the car so I’m wheeling it through the neighborhood to the temp rental house. The closer I get to the end the steeper it gets.

IMO simplest answer is that many people who advocate for IZ are either not thinking in an evidence based way or not motivated by Barbara's noble goals. That is backed up by evidence in Boston & many other places. Attitude towards IZ should be guided not by theory but by what happens on the ground.

New England land-use policy has a sort of primal evilness that is unmatched anywhere else in the US. A toxic combination of "I got mine" selfishness, xenophobic stupidity, and presumptuous "I should have a say in everything" busybody culture.
