This is the M65 Galaxy that is one of the galaxies in the Leo Triplet, and is around 35 million light-years away from Earth. It was discovered by Charles Messier in 1780 on the same night he also discovered its neighbor M66.

One of my favorite winter targets for astronomical viewing is what is known as the Leo Triplet. This is because three galaxies can be seen at once through a low magnification eyepiece. A 6 inch or larger telescope is recommended as NGC 3628's edge on orientation can make it elusive to see.
