I really enjoyed @andreworton.bsky.social’s erudite Black Archive on Castrovalva, one of the stories I have my earliest memories of watching. Many fascinating insights on television production, ontology, rationalism vs empiricism, recursion, and why Bidmead’s hard science fiction was pure fantasy.

Watching ‘Lover Come Back’, a romantic screwball comedy in which Rock Hudson keeps his true identity secret from Doris Day and is referred to as ‘Superman’ by some envious onlookers. And then there’s a romantic supper with the New York skyline beyond a leafy balcony.

I’m reading the Black Archive on Logopolis. If you do too and were unaware, the police box scenes were actually filmed a good 10-15 miles to the southwest at Gerrards Cross.

Very much enjoyed watching 'The Thief' (1952) this week, an exciting Cold War thriller with Ray Milland in the lead and not a word of dialogue in its 86 minutes. The regeneration scene was a surprise, though.

A mystery is solved in this week’s #GhostMonuments through serendipity! I could never find police box T24 on any of the old maps, but I think I’ve now located it, and I assume there was a clerical error in the written record.

New #GhostMonuments (sort of)! I finished the project four years ago, but subsequently published maps have helped me make revisions or, in these two cases, find alternate locations for the boxes.

The Gothic sight that greeted me as I turned the corner onto the street I live on this evening.

That was one of the things that made me think it couldn’t be one of the publicly accessible police boxes, despite the sign for an entirely unremarkable London street, which threw me. It just took a moment of inspiration to think where it *could* be.

Someone got in touch with me yesterday to ask for help in identifying a police box location, and it posed a conundrum. His late father was in the photo he sent, so I was keen to help. In the back of the shot is a street sign saying, Parke Road SW13, but there *was* no police box on Parke Road SW13.

Thank god, I was slipping into a coma, there. #LiveAid

I remembered that you see a police box towards the end of Genevieve (feat. Chancellor Flavia 😁), and had a look. Worked out its box L11 on the Old Kent Road in Walworth, opposite what’s now Burgess Park. I’ve not (knowingly) seen a photo or footage of it before.

A police box in the Dial 999 episode ‘The Motorbike Bandits’, featuring Neil McCarthy from ‘The Power of Kroll’ as one of the bandits. My best guess is that this is box S11 at Stirling Corner, due to its proximity to the studios at Borehamwood.

It featured optography as a plot point, which prompted me to watch the start of 'The Crimson Horror'—and I don't think I've ever spotted the resemblance between The Paternoster Gang's front door and River Song's diary, and obvs the TARDIS.

Dial 999 'Honeymoon' offers hot, gratuitous... police box action, with shot after shot of police box H12 on Tower Hill 😍. The box was in operation from 1938–1968, so had ten years to go at the time of production.

There was the briefest glimpse of a police box in the Dial 999 episode 'Extradition', circled in yellow here. It's box S49 on Finchley Road at Swiss Cottage. It was in operation from 1936–1970. I've also attached the old map and my Ghost Monuments of the box.
