Elizabeth Bear’s White Space series has me grinning like a fool and pausing just to savor it. It’s the first time since Iain M. Banks’ Culture that I’ve felt this mix of wonder+intellect, and sheer relevance packed into a universe, just so sharp and humane, huge thank you @matociquala.bsky.social! 🤩

I’m pretty eager for both claude code and cloud codex to get native computer-use agent capabilities, so that they can fully interact w/ apps as part of their development loops. I’ve been able to make it partially work and it’s powerful, will be a big unlock once built-in and better!

My last-standing personal litmus test for new AI models that's easy to judge: create a novel joke w/ some random elements to incorporate so it doesn't repeat existing ones. The reasoning models certainly make a better attempt at it but still come up way short, doesn't seem like it's far off though.

I don't normally comment on this stuff but I guess I've just hit my limit. I've been watching Jay make consistently strong strategic decisions under incredible pressure, and watching her get dogged by this 2nd rate nonsense is too much. That guy isn't the story. The fact Jay charted her own path is.

Coming in the near future thanks to AI: hardware manufacturers will be able to offer indefinite LTS for all firmware with per-customer features on demand using specialized AIs that can automatically maintain, customize, test, and release all of the code and dependencies that drive the hardware.

Talking to a friend this weekend about the state of AI and we happened on a thought that has been sticking with me and feels like it could be a significant perspective change: Our economy will become governed by value-per-token.
