One month later, the elderberry propagation is still going well! they’re in sand now, so it won’t be too tough of a shock to their roots when they’re transplanted. I’m planning on bringing them to the native plant share on May 9 (1-3pm, 7719 Chicago Ave, Takoma Park).

Fun fact: eastern redbud blossoms grow directly out of the tree trunk, not just on the ends of branches. Cercis canadensis is in the same family as peas, and their blossoms are edible. In a week or so we’ll be enjoying the prettiest salads of the year! #maryland #nativeplants

I got this little staghorn sumac (Rhus typhina) in the fall and got it in the ground late enough in the fall that I worried whether it would survive the winter- but look at these buds! I’m optimistic for a beautiful new tree this year (especially fall foliage!)
