Today's deep-cut deity, in honor of Labor Day weekend: Ponos, the daimon of backbreaking toil and hard labor -- the kind you get when you have no rights as a worker. Unsurprisingly, Hesiod claims his mother was Eris, goddess of discord. Hope everyone gets to relax this Labor Day, even poor Ponos!

Last week, we got a tour of the sets for PJO s3. Once again I'm blown away by the talent of our design crew. Them: "Does it look like you imagined?" Me: "It looks better. I couldn't have visualized this level of detail!" If you can come to the Court of the Dead tour, I'll tell you some stories!

Watching the first dailies come in from season three filming: Nico, Bianca, Dr. Thorn. I can't believe we actually made it this far. So cool! (and no, I can't tell you who plays Thorn yet, but he's perfect.)

Still reading Chernow's biography of Mark Twain, which is fascinating, but I find myself getting anxious on Twain's behalf every time he makes a bad business/publishing decision. (He did this a lot.) A little late now. He dead. Still, I hate to see an author suffer from self-inflicted wounds. 🫣

I really enjoyed Fantastic Four as well! That was probably the first Marvel comic series I fell in love with, reading my uncles' old Silver Age issues from the early 1960s, so it was nice to see a movie with that retro vibe.
