Happy 64th birthday to Darryl Strawberry. There wasn’t a more feared slugger in the 1980s than Strawberry so his signing with the Dodgers ahead of 1991 made one of the biggest splashes in team history. He’s had some battles over time so hope he’s having a healthy and happy day.

I just realized I’ve had major interactions with 5 of the 1981 Dodgers: Fernando Valenzuela, Rick Monday, Dusty Baker, Joe Beckwith, and Jerry Reuss. Interviewing Beckwith for my ‘85 book changed my life, and I’m currently colleagues with Baker. 45 years later, they still have an impact!

Happy 48th birthday to Chone Figgins. Figgins was very productive during his 8 years with the Angels, earning an AS selection and top 10 finish in AL MVP voting in 2009. He moved on to Seattle for 3 less notable years before playing his final season with the Dodgers in 2014.
