Day in, day out, I speak to ordinary people who are organising to welcome the asylum seekers accommodated in their towns. They befriend, support them, reach out to them as fellow human beings. That's the Britain I know, the one I see around me & we never get told about on TV.

I prosecute and defend the most serious sexual offences in our courts. The overwhelming majority of offenders are British-born. Overwhelmingly the victim is someone known to them, either a partner or relative. Anybody purporting to care about protecting women might start there.

At Gibraltar airport on way home

I am attending the Chancery Bar Conference in Gibraltar, held, improbably, on this large yacht.

I have been mediating a boundary dispute today - but of light relief in one of the gardens.

I can best that. I tried to transfer money from my personal account to my business account and was phoned by my bank to ask if I was acting under duress etc and if anyone had asked me to make the payment; they wouldn’t go off script.

So, in a case of mine the other party’s solicitors have just written to cancel the mediation planned for July on the basis that “the parties are too far apart”. Duh! Optimistically, they end by saying they will refer the court to their letter on the question of costs.

My 6yo had surgery on Friday. Same. Why our leaders can’t lead and just tell the damn truth to the country about how we rely on them, I will never understand.

It’s an immigrant that puts him to bed and gets him up. It’s an immigrant who feeds him. It’s an immigrant who cleans him. They are not ‘strangers’.
