One of really weird things about leaving a city is giving a friend advice on places to go 6 months later and discovering all your go-to places have since permanently closed, and you realise you didn’t just leave a city, but also a point in time. So even if you return, you’ll never really return.

Absolute joy dealing with a heatwave in the UK. Everyone tells me that I ‘must be used to this as an Australian’ and I smile and go ‘fuck yeah mate, I love it’ But I don’t love it. It’s fucking horrible. This place wasn’t designed to be hot. It’s a fucking nightmare.

Incredible that every mad thing Trump does in order to distract from a previous thing, then requires a new mad thing to distract from that. It’s essentially a debacle Ponzi scheme.

Would love to know how many lost meadow-goers got stranded on this street to require this very English street sign to be made. Also love how it originally was ‘nonsuch’ but someone’s thought to linguistically modernise it by scratching out the second N.

I think this comes down to a fundamental scalability issue with architecture. If you keep enlarging a living space, it moves beyond a comfortable human scale, and that threshold tends to be a lot smaller than what the ego-driven rich deem to be big enough for the statement they’re trying to make.

Playing pool at the local pub. Some ten yr old hits the table and I figured I’d be nice and supportive and stuff, until he pulled out a square of chalk from his vest pocket. …don’t think I’ve ever seen anyone play so incredibly on a pub table. Kicker was his mother proudly watching from the bar.

Love the difference in a ‘bacon sandwich’ on a Melbourne menu v a UK menu Melb: Big, lightly toasted sourdough slices, some thick cut bacon, chutney, lettuce, cheese, served on a plate with some nice garnishes. UK: a few rashes of bacon between two slices of disintegrating white sandwich loaf.

Absolute nightmare introducing yourself to people in the UK when you’re called Chaz. Exponentially worse when it turns out the other guy is called Dave.
