Hey does anyone know if TiCS still publishes spotlights on recent articles because I’m almost done with my commentary “The Ultrasound and the Fury”.

Very mixed feelings about this study. While its results are somewhat consistent with prior animal studies using causal methods, I don’t like that they use prior work as a free pass to skip over functional localization of the tFUS effects.

“Interrogation of data from cerebral organoids demonstrated that, although broad elements of in vivo development are recapitulated in vitro, many layer-specific transcriptomic programs in neuronal maturation are absent.” Got questions about the brain dynamics, organoids are a dead end. Full stop.

The data is in: the NIH goalposts have shifted. What were once almost certain fundable scores have become coin flips and what used to be likely grants have become aspirational, leading to fewer awards. Another manifestation of how HHS policies have led to fewer awards and less science.

A recent paper in @natureportfolio.nature.com raised concerns about the lesion network mapping method. Our team of 16 coauthors analyzed >1000 lesions and 34 symptoms and found that "The methodological foundations of lesion network mapping remain sound" www.biorxiv.org/content/10.6...
