Resistance is hard. It is likely better for my mental health to dissociate from the constant threats to my identity as a researcher and queer man. But dissociating also undermines my authenticity as a person. Maybe the solution is continued resistance but fostering joy and silliness along the way.

I’m proud to be affiliated with a department with a massive strength in Diversity Science, and am going to start placing words like diversity and equity in my emails/website to help produce some noise into the system that is trying to systematically erase them.

In 7th grade at my school’s variety show I had to do a dance to Blue Skies in a sequence bow tie. I forget the dance moves but remember the bow tie. This is a great example of my lab’s research on motivated memory and a great way to re-engage with this app. @maureenritchey.bsky.social
