Agreed but I think him being dead is an important factor. If he were alive and decided to deny the allegations or provide a disingenuous apology I worry that many (mostly cis men) would choose to take him at his word and attack the women for sharing their stories “after all these years” instead.

Removing Cesar Chavez’s name from Chicano/Latino/ethnic studies centers and programs is a good first step. The next step is to seriously tackle the hegemonic forms of masculinity that continue to pervade these fields as well as academia more generally.

If anything the Cesar Chaves revelation shows that the systematic abuse of girls and women by powerful men is so endemic that it occurs across the political spectrum. Chavez is not a distraction from Epstein. It is more evidence that hegemonic manhood in US society is fundamentally pathological.
