Disappointed to find that the Exploratorium's website doesn't have any explorables on it. The Computer History Museum website has a browsable catalog that actually feels like a website for a museum. The Exploratorium ought to have a website that feels like a website for an exploratorium!

Here's a little spatial / tangible tool I made to explore an algorithm with my hands and eyes. I saw an error diffusion matrix on wikipedia and it looked vaguely like a circle, so I built this board game-inspired tool to feel out just how spatial it actually was.

Fuck you people. Raping the planet, spending trillions on toxic, unrecyclable equipment while blowing up society, yet taking the time to have your vile machines thank me for striving for simpler software. Just fuck you. Fuck you all. I can't remember the last time I was this angry.

I wish that, instead of making all our UIs out of glass, we'd instead added a *tiny* bit of motion blur to all our UIs. When stuff scrolls, and (because of vision persistence, frame blending, pixel transition time, etc) I see multiple sharp copies of the scrolling stuff… that looks and feels bad.

I believe Trump is a self serving authoritarian who's dismantling democracy, trying to make trans people illegal, and wanting to set up concentration camps for immigrants - whereas Jon in February called him "the best President we have had in my entire life".

Additionally, in recent years it has become increasingly clear that Jon’s beliefs/priorities and mine are not aligned. He’s adversarial to people talking about privilege and representation, is dismissive of diversity efforts, has dabbled in covid trutherism, and is pro-MAGA.

That said, I hope the game will get a more nuanced label than “new Jon Blow game”. While the creative vision is his, he didn’t make any of the original games and there are a lot of talented people at Thekla who also deserve credit.

If local-first aims to reconstruct software without needing the cloud by inverting ideas data ownership, credible exit, reliance of authoritative servers, software longevity, etc. than the co-option that I think is happening is energy of local-first will be funneled towards sync engines...

This game has one of the smoothest difficulty curves I've ever felt in a "puzzle sickos" game. I've been stumped for the exactly correct amount of time by every single puzzle. It's a quite the feat. Highest recommendation. (I'm playing on my phone, but I'm sure other platforms would be good too.)

There is something truly remarkable about Generative AI. Several years in this revolution, half of the US GDP dumped to make these tools free, and i can't think of a single generated artifact, text, image, sound, video that had a significant cultural impact.

The new Automerge website is live!! The biggest (smallest) surprise? How fun it was to build the demo! Automerge is so robust, it withstood all our weird ideas — like using physics-driven particles to literally push changes between docs — and it just worked. Perfectly. Every time.

so, the core of the dark object system is that every "game object" is made up of a bunch of properties and links. properties are just tables of data keyed by object id, more or less like all ecs systems have now. but links are the really cool bit.
