The OBSESSION is growing. +52% from last week—the little horror film that could delivered another $5.5M on Discount Tuesday… nearly toppling Grogu. Audiences have serious anxious attachment.

OBSESSION is a mindf*ck of intense proportions. Such a freaky flick. But, what's really messed up about it is the relationship trauma that's cooked in. Embedded, in fact. Anxious attachment to the Xtreme. Makes you take a hard look at your own loves. Go there if you dare...

Horror is a genre that is typically front-loaded, so what OBSESSION is doing at the box office is extremely rare. The industry has seen films *pop* 2nd weekend, but that’s usually over the winter holiday season—films like TITANIC, LAST SHOWMAN, JUMANJI: WttJ. This is big time.

This just doesn’t happen. OBSESSION will increase an estimated 25% in its second weekend—$21M, $27M over the extended holiday.

Sounds like things are not going well in Orange County, California, where 10,000 people have been told to evacuate because of a toxic chemical leak at the GKN Aerospace facility.

“There are only two ways the situation could possibly unfold, according to the Orange County Fire Authority, and neither of them is good. The tank could either fail and spill thousands of gallons of toxic chemicals, or it could explode.”

A lot of people will talk about Solo's numbers, but that was a different world. Considering that there hasn't been an original SW film in theaters in 7 years and that the internet has declared the franchise dead, the numbers for this weekend are actually pretty good.

There’s frustration from comparing genocidal acts nearly exclusively to the Holocaust and Nazis but citing any other genocide would draw blank, ignorant stares. American genocide of Indigenous peoples, Armenian, Herrero, Bosnian, Japanese etc. have similar tactics. No one knows those though.

The US conducted a genocide in Vietnam but compare that to the Israeli genocide and people wouldn’t know shit about it. Similarly, the RSF genocide and the Bosnian have similarities but you’d have to condense books worth of info to convey that.

AI makes it harder for humans to trust one another, which makes it harder for humans to work together towards shared ends, which is the greatest gift billionaires could ever give to aspiring authoritarians.

Human collaboration on a scale larger than local, face-to-face networks will become incredibly easy to disrupt by the billionaires who own the means of mass communication. That media playing field has always been tilted, but this marks a new stage in that history.

There’s a reason Elon and Trump elevated figures like Libs of Tik Tok and Jack Posobiec. They pioneered the art of targeting individual activists with angry attention so as to shut them up or delegitimize them.

Six years ago, McCay Collins wrote an important piece about the massive information warfare machinery that the Trump campaign had assembled, helmed by DJT, Jr. AI has only accelerated that ongoing, reality distorting project.

Use cases: Separating creatives and their audiences. Separating lonely people from each other. Separating consumers and legitimate products. Separating employers and employees. Turning every person into an individual spore with a shell hard to the outside and with fake content on its inside.

I think if the Holocaust is the only genocide people can recognize, then public memory has failed. Hitler took cues from U.S. racial law and settler colonialism. We shouldn't talk about Nazism as some alien horror when part of its blueprint was plainly American.
