My Archaeology and Disability 🏺♿ course starts on 1/5, but I'm traveling with my family 12/17–1/2, so I am getting everything ready now! I'm really excited about the grading (or, really, #ungrading) structure of the course, which gives students a lot of freedom, choice, and room for risk-taking! 🧵

I gotta say, as terrifying as this bill is, I am getting some real enjoyment from watching the Republicans in Congress be a mess.

But we were also alarmed by the oversight which almost led to #wac10 attendees sharing the space with a war criminal.

At its meeting of 21 June 2025, the World Archaeological Congress Council resolved to exclude from WAC-10 participation scholars affiliated with Ariel University, an institution located within an Israeli settlement in the occupied Palestinian territory (West Bank). 🏺 #WAC10

We continue to call on WAC to implement an ethical strategy, avoiding further risk of complicity in Israel’s war crimes, for the organisation, its members, and attendees of the congress. Nothing sums up the state of affairs for transgender Americans quite like the US Supreme Court denying trans people life-saving healthcare at the same time that the Trump administration shuts down suicide prevention programs for LGBTQ people. These bastards want us all dead.

The cruelty of this is, genuinely, staggering. This is a policy that saves virtually no money whatsoever whose success is measured in the number of children it kills.

When I needed a hysterectomy due to severe endometriosis & adenomyosis, I was repeatedly denied Told I “might want kids.” Told I “might meet a man who wants kids” I was left disabled & bed ridden, yet the system continued to try & save my diseased uterus against my will 🧵

Just got a message from the kids' pediatrician, saying (basically) "If you haven't gotten your kids vaxxed for covid, do it now while you still can" and... I just hate all of this so much. Vaccines are easily one of the best things humans have ever done. Why would we throw that away?

In related news, my #WAC10 🏺 paper is about how "My feminism will be intersectional or it will be bullshit" (Flavia Dzodan). I'm presenting virtually because I have 3 children under the age of 4 so going to another continent is not in the cards, but really excited to participate!

One would think that after writing and presenting SO MANY conference papers over the past decade, I would know how to pick a topic that I can fit in 15 minutes (2500 words, since I am a fast talker). One would be wrong. Me trying to fit my ideas into this paper:

Protesting in solidarity with immigrants in danger of ICE kidnapping at the San Francisco immigration court. Say it loud, say it clear: immigrants are welcome here!
