This isn't about "training issues." The murderer who executed Renee Good has been with ICE for 10 years, and according to DHS, the murderer who executed Alex Pretti has been there for 8 years. These aren't "new recruits," or officers that can be "retrained." ICE can't be reformed. Abolish ICE.

Also, may I say that I don’t agree with people saying ICE and CBP need “more training.” They’re doing exactly what this administration has trained them to—impose a reign of fear in blue cities. They don’t need more training. They need to be ripped up root and branch.

I wish Democrats would start just speaking the truth: “ICE is killing American citizens in public for exercising their freedom of speech because Donald Trump wants to be a king. This isn’t about immigration—Trump wants to make it illegal to oppose him, and to stay in power until he dies.”

The past few days have confirmed for me something I’ve long believed: the American political system is terminally fucked, but the American people are not. Most Americans want to live in a democracy in which everyone has a decent life—the fascists in this regime represent a dying minority.

FYI: Dems in the senate can't defund ICE. ICE is funded by the Big Ugly Bill. Shutting down DHS on this vote wouldn't touch ICE, but it would shut down FEMA, TSA, Coast Guard, etc. Shutting down ICE requires taking back Congress in the midterms. Dismantling DHS requires the White House in 2028.
