The problem with unpacking boxes is that it makes the rest of the house messier until you're able to organize everything. We're making progress little by little. I think I'm going to take everything out of the pantry and reorganize it to optimize space.

I love a rainy Saturday morning.

My husband made this cool pencil holder out of recycled paper. He breaks the paper down and puts it into a mold. He also makes handmade paper from recycled paper.

I'm starting to get used to and enjoy our new apartment, but I don't like this. I was cleaning up after cutting cauliflower yesterday and you can't just sweep the crumbs into your hand. It's not the biggest deal. You can clean up with a rag, but it's still annoying.

I support this idea but also, hear me out: mixed-used commercial/residential on quiet low-car streets why can't I live on a cute little neighborhood street with 2-4-story buildings, cafes and little shops, and absolutely no through traffic.

I have analyzed the census data in Seattle and found that 90% of the car free households are in denser solutions than a single family home and yet we shove them on the busy car streets and leave quiet low car streets for single family homes. We should reverse that zoning plan

I think I'm almost ready to really look at pictures of Kiki again. It's not that I haven't looked at them this whole time, but I avoided them in our temporary apartment a bit. I feel ready to REALLY look and see her again now or soon. My biggest fear is that I'll look and she still won't seem real.

Just thinking about how I used to work at a kindergarten in what was almost the countryside just outside of Seoul in a circular stand-alone building that used to be a restaurant. I remember the kids gathering chestnuts during recess. That was an interesting time.

What music should I listen to next? I like Sylvan Esso, Khruangbin, Phoebe Bridgers, and Fever Ray to name a few. I just get stuck listening to the same music over and over again.

My husband and I are still mildly amused when we don't know where the other is in the house. It's a very small apartment, but having rooms after living in a studio for two years is fun.

You know when you say or read a common word and it doesn't seem like a familiar word anymore or loses all meaning? That just happened to me with my brother's name (he passed away in 2024) after seeing an adoptable dog named Franklin. It is a very strange feeling.

Closing doors is still a novelty to me.

I'm pleased that our new BioLite camping lantern works really well as an extra kitchen light for washing dishes. There's even a handy haunted mirror to hang it from! The string lights, faucet towel holder, and haunted mirror come with the rental.

I think I'm going to take a staycation later this summer once I have more PTO saved up.

This morning I'm thinking about how much I miss Kiki and how other places are just as beautiful as the Pacific Northwest in their own way.

I bought a night light for our bathroom. It turns out that the bathroom light has to be switched on for that outlet to work. 🙃

Oh this is deeply dystopian. These people really think your brain and your body belong to them. And studies have already shown this kind of forced congeniality and emotional labor is linked to higher rates of depression and anxiety. Can't imagine constant surveillance improving that.

I ordered one copy for myself & one for my niece who is graduating from college this year with a degree in natural resources & a double minor in philosophy & marine biology. I was hoping to give her a book as a gift for graduation and I think this one is perfect for her!

How do you organize your spices and tea? Looking for space-saving ideas and inspiration! Brian mentioned a two-tier rotating spice rack. Also, why does the air from our range hood go out of the top of the range hood into the kitchen?

This is the other funny thing about our new apartment.

I don't mind the countertops, but I felt that this was a weird way to do it (the metal). I do realize that we chose this apartment, but there weren't many options. I'd expect better for $1,875/month. Keep in mind that this is after a remodel. Old houses will, of course, always have weird quirks.

The owner probably couldn't afford to put another light in the kitchen because they paid $844,000 for this duplex in 2024 when it last sold for $261,000 in 2016.

I'm glad I bought a new camping lantern. I was cutting vegetables in the kitchen yesterday and realized it could be good for chopping food and washing dishes since there's not a light over there. I might get a lamp to attach to the wall if that doesn't work.

Tell the kids we use to go days, weeks even, without thinking about the president.
