I think I would like to upgrade the saying "never meet your heroes" to "just maybe don't have heroes." Admire people, sure, but don't give them such high esteem that you're blinded to their humanity. Hold space in your mind to understand that anyone, at any time, can lose your respect.

One of the hardest things to remember as a software engineer is that sometimes the correct answer to really out-there edge cases isn't "handle it gracefully," but rather "if the user tries that, they deserve what they have coming to them." 😂 people are excellent at inventing new ways to be dumb.

Sure, AI slop sucks - but going around just spamming "this is AI" under every picture on the internet is not helpful. Pretty much every phone these days has a really simple shortcut for reverse image search built in. USE IT. Sometimes you find out that "AI slop" is in the Smithsonian archive!
