For years the small press comics scene has been circling closer and closer to doing a modern version of the "Paradise 9" anthology-within-an-anthology from Heavy Metal Magazine #13. This one is so close it has to be intentional.

I started reading "Kurumizawa's Folly" about a washed up manga artist in the 70s and the stuff about how no one reads science fiction manga anymore because its too preachy is killing me. War never changes.

"A Bride's Story" Vol. 11 by Kaoru Mori. The bride in this one is so sad, even when she's happy she's sad, she has long beautiful hair and dresses like a huge caterpillar. You can feel Kaoru Mori going sicko mode every time she gets to draw this sad woman glancing down.

It rules that BIRTH came out the same year as Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind. One of the best movies ever made and also the schlock direct-to-video version for perverts made by a bunch of the same animators.

I my list of all the comics people who pushed NFTs but Matt Kindt is one of the ones I still hold a grudge against. He was the first comics writer to do NFTs and then when he got pushback claimed he did it "as a social experiment" 🙄. I don't appreciate him positioning himself as an anti-AI leader.

I understand that most of us don't have the means to personally stop what's happening and there are many domestic victims of the US regime, but there's something very grim and galling about seeing Americans post "we must find moments of joy" every time our government murders children.

I’m rewatching Scavengers Reign with intent to finish it this time and I still groan every time they encounter a creature perfectly evolved to act as a useful tool and immediately know how to use it as such.

Do all those comics about a father desperately trying to protect his child hit harder when you’re a dad or does it ever feel like pandering? Obviously that sort of story does nothing for me, but I’d be interested to hear competing perspectives from the dads in the audience.
