Back at it again with my 2026 comics reading thread! "Age of Reptiles: Ancient Egyptians" by Ricardo Delgado. In the backmatter Delgado describes this as a western, which brings the whole story into focus. Even the dinosaur courtship rituals are framed like Sergio Leone gunslinger duels.

When I go to see shorebirds, I don't just jump in the car and go. I do some research first. What are the tides like? What times? How high/low? When does the sun set/rise? Also - the weather. It's not always great. But when it's great - it's fabulous. Today looks ideal. Pic: bar-tailed godwit.

"Slice of life comics" are comics in which Ogami Itto, sometimes known as Lone Wolf, slices someone - thus taking their life.

I don’t know how Vaughn is supposed to write a movie screenplay where he can’t just write a bunch of identical last-page-twists into it.

The American artist I most associate with this page layout is of course Rob Liefeld. Nothing matters more to The Rob than showing off Shatterstar in his cute little tactical outfits. It’s exactly the same as Takahashi showing off the apartment manager’s fashionable skirts.

Reading a new lesbian romance manga "Ayaka is in Love with Hiroko", and here's the classic Rumiko Takahashi "look at how cute this girl is in this outfit" page layout right in chapter one.

I'm not sure what's more surprising, that so many Americans are willingly watching an educational program like 60 Minutes, or that they're still making new seasons of "Ghosts."

Two of the Shonen Jump manga I read have been stuck in "The Final Battle" for months, which makes it extra funny that Fujimoto is just like "by the way, last chapter next week" out of nowhere.

People are rightly worried about the phrase "venture capitalist" but maybe it will be good for this site to be run by a boring business man without a wikipedia page instead of someone who spends so much time doing forum troll shenanigans.

The american direct-maket comics industry puts out so many Horror Genre comics and I don't think there's ever been one that's actually scary. Obviously not everyone can be Umezz but I'm not sure we need so many versions of Cullen Bunn.

I'm fascinated by the Europe Comics' business model where they pump out a TON of translations that you can only find as ebooks on select library apps where absolutely no one reads them. Print this one out and sell it at the Yellowstone National Park visitor center!

Does anyone know if First Second still requires creators to deliver a full script before starting to draw the book, and if so whether that rule applies to their newish “comics for adults” imprint?

I’ve been reading Concrete again and I’m glad Chadwick is making more because no one else is doing that sort of stiff low-concept serialized comic for adults, your dad’s fourth favorite creator owned comic. It’s an important unfilled niche.

This specific sort of lazy last-page reveal/cliffhanger is such a hallmark of superhero comics now that its jarring to see it deployed in this historical manga.

I mainly know Nexus from the issue of "Dreadstar" where he does an intergalactic genocide so I'm surprised how much his early adventures are about him judging another violent vigilante for not killing people the right way.

“You still have to acknowledge this abuser’s influence on the industry/medium” also doesn’t really work with Gaiman because no one wants to admit that in hindsight the real main impact of Sandman was normalizing superhero comics switching artists every 3 issues.
