Received word today that one of my dad’s best friends passed away last night. He’d been battling cancer for 6 years, so it wasn’t necessarily a huge shock, but it’s still sad, and my dad seemed in poor spirits when I saw him this afternoon at my nephew’s basketball game.

When I was 12, I was home alone with my sibling and we were supposed to be doing homework, but instead decided to play some version of dodgeball with wadded-up sheets of paper. While dodging by rolling across the floor, I sprained my right thumb on hard tile. 3 weeks in a splint followed.
