Absolutely crushing. Rob was one of my freelancers when I ran the Star Wars line at WotC, and has remained a colleague over the years. He was always eager to help, and the world is a worse place for having lost him.

Prepped to run my last Neon City Outlaws game of Gen Con!

Ran Neon City Outlaws at Gen Con today, first play of The Convention Job (which will be one of the free scenarios coming to Kickstarter backers once it's been playtested and polished). Went really well, and the players were great. Already found some things to tweak before Saturday's session!

Spectaculars, by @scratchpadpub.bsky.social, is another game I've seen first-time GM's pick up and run with gusto. I love how it feels like an entire game-in-a-box, even if you're running online. Character creation feels full of possibility, but it gives you helpful limitations - a great balance!

Been a little quiet on here for a while, and not for no reason. The trade situation here in the US has made pricing out the #neoncityoutlaws game Kickstarter really challenging. The bad news is that with the current state of things a box set full of goodies like DCO/Spectaculars is too costly.

I really can’t say enough good things about the Spectaculars rpg. Right now it’s hitting my sweet spot for superhero action with cinematic action, tactical choices, fun powers, pre-made adventures, and really fast chargen.

Just got the first box mockup for #neoncityoutlaws and I think it looks rad. What do you think?

Session zero last night for our new campaign of Spectaculars from @scratchpadpub.bsky.social ! I did not expect my players to take us to 1980s Hong Kong after an alien spaceship crash devastated the city and triggered the appearance of super-powered people, but we're there now and I LOVE it.

One of the tools I've been using to add ambiance to Neon City Outlaws playtests is #Dystopika, an awesome cyberpunk city-builder that makes it really easy to create cityscapes with custom billboards/signage.

I want loading minds into/out of bodies to be central to the #neoncityoutlaws game. I'm tinkering with physical components that makes body-swapping fast and easy. The gene-spliced "werewolf" is one of those quick-swap bodies. Here's the latest evolution of that concept art by @atrabilio.bsky.social

For #neoncityoutlaws, I'm working on a slightly different take on the scenarios, blending them more with the Spectaculars-esque setting creation elements. It's been interesting trying to decide what should become a setting-level element, and what can be defined by and for the scenario.

A theme I'm exploring in #neoncityoutlaws is genetic manipulation as commonplace as cybernetics. Here’s the first concept sketch of a character who has been genetically-spliced with wolf DNA then augmented with cybernetics, creating a bestial fighting machine. Concept art by Hunter Bonyun.

Just spent a portion of my lunch break reviewing several tracks from a potential #neoncityoutlaws soundtrack. You've already heard a snippet of it in the teaser video, and Stratos (the composer) has really started exploring how the soundtrack can be used to enhance at-the-table play. Very exciting!

Doing a little prototyping on #neoncityoutlaws for a new take on the Deck of Time from Dusk City Outlaws. Trying to find a way to get more improvisational aids onto the components and maybe make things a little less predictable. Printed the prototype deck using @drivethrurpg.com to have real cards!

As #neoncityoutlaws comes together, it's starting to hit that phase where art is starting to come in, and suddenly a project goes from theoretical to real in the blink of an eye. As someone with no artistic talent, it's thrilling to see what the talented artists I work with come up with.

This is the very funny, very lighthearted group that started with MnM about 15 years ago, even though all the players but me have changed! We typically play golden age superheroes once a month. About to start a SPECTACULARS campaign. Excited.

For #neoncityoutlaws, I'm looking to update some of the game mechanics in Dusk City Outlaws to improve the overall experience. One thing I'm looking at is play time. DCO jobs could take a lot of real time, even with time limitations on planning. Legwork scenes are obviously the main culprit.
