Gut check as some students work on econ PhD admissions for the coming year: The mapping from GRE score to percentile has shifted a lot for quant in the past decade. (e.g., a score above the 90th percentile 15 years ago is at the 80th percentile now). Are PhD programs filtering on score or %tile?

as a junior woman academic, it's hard to figure out how to get invited for opportunities. my go-to strategy is to just ask and take the no's on the chin. so i'm asking: does anyone w/an econ/social science/policy podcast need a guest about DV, welfare, crime, incarceration, or public health?

Importing a perennial topic: What is the recommendation (including non-recommendation) w/r/t 'pre-docs'/RA jobs for - student at liberal arts college - strong math background, but not econometrics (not an econ major, a CS major who has taken our econ theory core) - Intersted in micro theory?

I'm writing up a paper that looks at who is hired at nonPhD econ schools. I ran a probit on the chance the hire is separated (e.g. not at the original school). I tried chatgpt for a first write up of the paper. Not bad and could save time

Towson Econ is hiring. I'm looking at placement records of PhD schools, many top 10 or 15 programs have 0 placements at schools like Towson in the last 5 to 10 years. It's a different market and probably different advice depending on your school both sides of the market

's and Suzuki's paper on this topic. They find that effort may counterbalance an otherwise adverse temperature effect.
