No, technology is not neutral, and calling AI and other technological contrivances “tools” obscures proper understanding of their role & impact. I encourage everyone to read @lmsacasas.bsky.social. Not just this, but everything he writes…but also THIS!

Peer Review in 2026: check refs first. I pull three random claims and related citations, go to the paper. If it’s real, see if the paper looks like it connects to the claim. If 2/3 don’t align, check 7 more, or until I hit 5 that don’t connect. At that point; AI or not; the paper is uncredible.

It’d be great if everyone interested in launching some AI project first asked themselves—would this be acceptable without the AI angle? The conflation of AI & Progress obscures judgment & erases necessary interrogation of processes. Also, can everyone stop with OPT-OUTS? That’s not how life works.
