Now that I think of it, I was definitely an undiagnosed AuDHD kid: I said yes to things to please my parents and also because whatever it was was new and exciting, but then never followed through because I was too scared to do something new and it was out of my comfort zone.

Sometimes I wonder if there’s been a mistake and I’m not really the Au part of AuDHD and then I react in an unreasonably extreme way to a small thing and realize that yeah I totally am. Good times.

Anyone looking at my feed might think I reject any and all AI. I certainly do not. There are benefits. Technology has and always will be as good as the user. But very wealthy folks who have worked hard for their wealth and power telling others not to work as hard because now we have AI is laughable.

I have a very strong opinions about what makes a good puzzle. There is a humanity to the creation of a puzzle that seeps through as I solve it. I do not want AI art, music, entertainment, any of it. AI is a veneer on a facade. It’s utterly depressing and creepy. Like clowns. I don’t like clowns.

This exemplifies much of the damage modern tech has had on society. Humans need the ability to sit in uncomfortable mental spaces where unfamiliarity and uncertainty wrestle with finding (or not) an answer. Sometimes pizza on the floor = call for attention. Other times it’s just pizza on the floor.

Just told my kids that the new dishwasher has AI and is listening to them, so they need to speak nicely to it.

How should I look to boost my income? A. Pursue 9 grad course credits to move over a column in my salary guide B. Get my speaking engagements career phase off the ground C. Finally use all of my yarn to crochet a bunch of stuff and then launch a store.

Forcing people to use AI w/ the argument more=better is like thinking that a giant bowl of slop will magically transform into something edible by adding two drops of high quality ingredients. With AI (or on the Internet at all) you have 8 bad answers and 2 good ones, you don’t end up 2 good answers.

This is no better than an outright book ban. When select identities and ideas are sidelined, the message is clear that only some are acceptable. Meanwhile AI chatbots hallucinate and social media does real mental harm to kids. But sure, books are the problem. Have a spine. Keep books on shelves.

Any system that automates also removes independence and controls from the user. We face AI saturation (as well as algorithm hell) and book banning (i.e. oppression of ideas). Control is removed, autonomy stifled, conformity shoved in our faces all with a smile and promises of making life easier.

Some days I feel restless in my AuDHD journey. I want to speak more openly, be a louder voice for NDs, particularly in education, but also in society writ large. But then life happens. Real world constraints stifle my ambitions and drain my energy. I revert to wanting to hide and protect myself.

I just realized that the process of me finding the perfect gif or meme to send to my friend over text is the same process that use for picking out the perfect card. It has to be just right for the person and the moment.

I know I’m a little late to this - and even though I’ve known some of it, but never did a deep dive - I started listening to the Sold A Story podcast and I am SO ANGRY. It all just goes to show how well-meaning people can believe something to their core for so long and still be wrong.

Later this week I will be leading a program at my local library. It will be the first time I teach my information literacy learning model that I’ve been developing for the past 7 years. It’s called QUEST. I’ve never been so sure of a thing being so good while also feeling so sick with nervousness.

Sometimes it would be great to actually care less about the things for which I know I feel an outsized sensitivity. But if I could do that, I probably wouldn’t be neurodivergent. Fun

One of the things that drew me to librarianship is that I could do many different things. Books ✔️ Research ✔️ Cataloging ✔️ Budgets ✔️ Marketing and creative projects ✔️ Every year is something new ✔️ I knew I could never be bored. Yet it still took so long to realize that I’m neurodivergent?? 🙄
