Any one of us could be detained for hours by ICE despite being a U.S. citizen. Any one of us could be in the next apartment building that ICE raids in the middle of the night. Any one of us could be the next to be brutalized by ICE for speaking out. Authoritarianism hurts all of us.

The past couple days have made it clear that arresting and prosecuting Johnathan Ross isn’t just the right thing to do, it is necessary to prevent future violence by ICE who have interpreted the situation as “we can do that to whoever we want”

I am begging Democratic leadership to recognize that funding and legitimizing your authoritarian opponent’s secret police is a bad idea. This should not be a difficult concept.​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​

Stoke fear. Exploit desperation. Suspend the rule of law. Fan brutality. Every time the stronger brutalize the weak, it’s fundamentally the same playbook. Our duty is to stand up to brutality. Our moral obligation is to protect the vulnerable and hold the powerful accountable.

This story needs to be everywhere. Every news outlet every gas station, residence, warehouse, farmhouse, henhouse, outhouse, and doghouse. Shout it at your neighbors. Scream it at your colleagues. This is murder.

Next step: a very stern letter.... How can we not have an opposition party right now?
