Physicist, fencer, and old-vehicle enjoyer.
Of all of the indignities of modern air travel, at least we don’t have 20 people making the most mundane phone calls whilst we’re all stuck in a metal tube 10 km up.

I don’t know how to sufficiently express to all companies everywhere that I don’t want the item/service I use to have a social component. “Want to share what you’re listening to amongst your friends?” NO! I want to listen to the same terrible song 100 times and not be judged.

In all honesty: I block -- at first sight -- every account I see sharing genAI crap here. Draw or write poorly: you'll get better over time. Don't give your hobbies away to the Gaslighting Engine.

With Duolingo’s firing of humans on staff in favour of generative AI, I’ve decided to abandon my 2,293-day streak, cancel my subscription, and delete my account. Any good recommendations on language-learning software?

It’s weird: this is my first trip in a while where I haven’t brought a camera with me. I won’t have time to go out and use it, but I still am sitting here at the aeroport going “what if?”

Finally played Firewatch. I’d picked it up before, but wasn’t able to make it through the intro. Well worth a play. I think I’ll just sit and marinate on it for a while.

Assuming 2.3 million federal employees in the executive branch and a mean federal pay of $106,000, 5 minutes spent to respond to the 'what did you do this week' email will cost the federal government more than two million dollars in wages, not including time spent sorting responses.

Got to play with a Tachihara view camera today. I didn't have any sheet film to prep and load, so I used some of my photo paper (which shoots at ISO 6) and so this night shot was a 3'26" exposure. I desperately want to do more large-format photography soon.

Ethanol-based fuel strikes again: turns out my carb was misbehaving through the tuning process because the float was turning into a petrol-filled snowglobe. Luckily I had a spare lying around and I was able to get back on the road.

I think today's the day that I finally finish tuning the carbs on the beemer: I've been slowly changing out the jets over the last couple weeks and it's become such a blast to ride.
