Absolute nonsense. The pharmaceutical industry is one of the most profitable industries on the planet, every single new drug that comes to market is the result of some funding from taxpayers to discover or develop it, yet many Canadians can’t afford these same medicines.

At the end of the day I'm not sure how much difference it makes. But it is striking to put out a budget that axes a luxury tax on yachts and adds a co-pay for refugee claimants accessing drugs and dental care.

Just look at the stats from the most recent #Tuberculosis in Canada report (released Oct 2025, but covering 2023). It notes incidence of 5.5/100,000 & risk of not meeting Canada's 2030 commitment of >1/100,000. Meanwhile among Inuit it's 204.2/100,000... publications.gc.ca/site/eng/9.9...

Strong agree with this - there’s a presumption that the discussions and impact of the VIP meetings is higher than the “not-VIP” meetings. Simply not true - the world is full of brilliant people making huge impacts that are far more tangible than in many of these meetings.

Canada Post “lost” 1 billion dollars last year? How about, “it cost Canadians 1 billion dollars to have a national postal service” which works out to costing about $25 a year per person (population of Canada in 2024 = 40 million). Seems like a pretty reasonable cost to me.

Billing rates for common gynaecology procedures are up to 50% lower in Ontario than Alberta & BC. And wait times for complex cases are 2 to 3 years. Gynaecology is the only specialty that has seen a decline in spending over the last 8 years. How is it impacting women? @tvotoday.bsky.social

The situation in Sudan is horrific and getting worse. Hundreds of thousands of people are fleeing intense violence in North Darfur, and @msf.ca teams are treating children who are literally dying of thirst. Of the 170 people we've treated for gunshot and blast injuries, 40% are women and girls.

As someone who, I presume, reads CHEST more often than the average person let me just say I’m more than a bit surprised by today’s events.

It's unusual to see cases of cholera in Europe (or in North America): there are no current outbreaks and traveling while symptomatic with cholera is... unlikely and poses several logistical challenges. But cholera can be transported via other means - in this case, Holy Water - and generate cases.

MSF has made the difficult decision to suspend our medical operations in two medical facilities in Port-au-Prince following a targeted attack against a clearly marked MSF convoy last month. We have witnessed an alarming increase in the number of victims of violence in recent months.
